The President of the United States of America, Joe Biden, recently reversed the executive orders taken by previous President Donald Trump, relating to the ban of green card applications and certain types of visas, with the statement that such actions hurt US interest and industries. During the proclamation of revoking the measure, Biden stated ‘it harms the United States, including by preventing certain family members of United States citizens and lawful permanent residents from joining their families alike.’ Trump had previously banned green cards for incoming immigrants, and halted work visas for skilled works in the H-1B, H-4, L-1, and J visa categories, arguing that this was vital for safeguarding the United States labor market during the novel coronavirus outbreak. The pandemic was seen as an excuse for several measures enacted by Trump, such as the ‘buy American, hire American' executive orders. These executive orders by Trump were severely opposed by technology firms and business groups, including the US chamber of commerce and national associations of manufacturers, and both filed lawsuits saying that these policies enacted by trump were detrimental to the country’s economic interests.
