Democratic candidates Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock won the recent Georgia runoff elections, making this the first time two Democratic Senators represent Georgia in Washington in decades. The wins also give Democrats the slimmest of majorities in the Senate. The chamber is split in half, with the Vice President, Kamala Harris being the deciding vote. This means that Democrats will have control of both chambers of Congress, as well as the White House, giving President-elect Biden a clear path to fulfilling his agenda. Biden is expected to reverse many of Trump's policies, from the environment to diplomacy. Congress is also expected to almost immediately pass relief in the form of $2000 checks, among other benefits. The win comes as protestors stormed Congress, interrupting the electoral vote tabulation. Many people, Democrats and Republicans alike blame Trump and his enablers for the loss, since they continuously questioned the integrity of Georgia’s general election. Some well-known Trump supporters even urged people to not vote for the Senate election, which could have had significant effects considering that both elections were won by thin margins.
