The second impeachment of Donald Trump kicked off with a vote in the House of Representatives, where 10 Republicans along with the Democratic majority voted to impeach the President. Following that, there was a vote in the Senate to determine whether the trial itself was constitutional or not. The vote was largely along partisan lines, with only 6 Republicans along with Democrats voting that it was constitutional, making Mr Trump the first President in history to face an impeachment trial twice. Mr Trump faces only one article of impeachment - “incitement of insurrection”, based on the January 6th Capitol riots that rocked the U.S and the entire world. There has already been backlash from Trump supporters, who have given many reasons as to why they think the President shouldn't be impeached, such as the fact that he has already left office. However, the prosecution has stated that rather than a punishment, they view a possible impeachment as a prevention. If two-thirds of the Senate finds Trump guilty, he could be barred from ever holding office again. The prosecution, - House impeachment managers - argued that Trump may incite another riot if he is ever in a position of power again.
