Armin Navabi, a prominent Canadian-Iranian author, podcaster and atheist has recently come under fire for calling the Hindu goddess Kali “sexy”. Mr Navabi is the founder of Atheist Republic, an online free thought global community, and is the author of “Why there is no god”. He tweeted “Okay! I’m in love with Hinduism. I never knew you had sexy goddesses like these. Why would anyone pick any other religion?” with a picture of Kali. Many people have criticised and insulted him, including Kangana Raut. A case has also been filed against twitter. However, it has been pointed out something that Mr Navabi has also started a video campaign, #DesecrateTheQuran where he can be seen spitting and tearing the Qurans pages. There was no fallout, and perhaps even some support from people who now criticise him. In response to this, a particularly inhumane, and disgusting attack against him took place. Family members were mourning his dead mother's bed, and the twitter user “Ronak Agarwal” tweeted “Grouping up for a Gang Bang”. Other users justified it, implying to an extent that if Kali did not deserve respect, then neither did Mr Navabi’s mother. Despite all of this, twitter has not removed his account. It is assumed this is because he was well within his rights to free speech.
