On the 8th of February, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), verified that 3.6g of uranium was being produced at Iran’s Fuel Plate Fabrication Plant. This was in violation of its 2015 landmark deal with the US, China, EU, France and other nations. It consisted of a fifteen year ban on “producing or acquiring plutonium or uranium metals or their alloys.” Iran, according to the IAEA report, planned to use the uranium for research and development purposes, but it seems to be only 90% short of being weapons grade. A French foreign ministry spokeswoman said, “We call on Iran to not take any new measures that would further worsen the nuclear situation,” and this statement has been echoed by several other countries. The Iranian President stated that he was disappointed with US President Joe Biden so far because of his lack of progress in lifting the US sanctions as well as in reviving the Iran Nuclear Deal which former President Trump had withdrawn from.
